(Washington, D.C.) – Congresswoman Heather Wilson has taken $1,000 from indicted Republican super-lobbyist Jack Abramoff and even though many of her Republican colleagues have purged themselves of Abramoff’s money, Wilson holds tight to hers.  New Mexico families deserve to know why their member of Congress is holding so tightly to something that came from the symbol of the culture of corruption in Washington, D.C.

“Congresswoman Heather Wilson – why not ring in the new year the right way?  Make a resolution to send a positive message to New Mexico to clean up Congress and return the tainted money,” said John Lapp, executive director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.  “New Mexico families deserve a member of Congress who fights for them, and not Washington’s culture of corruption.”

Jack Abramoff is at the center of the rapidly growing scandals involving Tom DeLay and other members of Congress.  The corruption reaches far and wide, take a look below:

• The Tom DeLay scandal resume is long and Abramoff is at the center. Tom DeLay was admonished a record three times by the House Ethics Committee and indicted in Texas courts.  In addition to these ethics charges and indictments, DeLay’s friends and close associates have been indicted, even arrested.  Jack Abramoff himself was recently indicted, arrested and later released on bail, and a political action committee associated with DeLay was implicated for illegally accepting corporate contributions.  Recently, indictments have come down from a Texas grand jury for two Tom DeLay associates who are accused of money laundering and violations of the Texas Election Code and criminal conspiracy to violate the Texas Election Code.

• Tom DeLay faced booking and arraignment for indictments in growing scandal.  In recent weeks, Republican Majority Leader Tom DeLay has been indicted by a Texas grand jury.  The indictments are on one count of money laundering and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering
